Emergency Giraffe Rescue
in South Africa

While most often giraffe are moved to different places to increase genetic diversity or expand their range, sometimes they must be moved due to the risk of imminent danger.

In 2022, a landowner in South Africa faced financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He planned to convert his land to a macadamia nut farm which meant the removal of all wildlife from the reserve. He ordered the euthanasia of all animals on the reserve, including a small herd of giraffe.

Upon hearing of the situation, Save Giraffes Now immediately sprang into action. Through quick work, the giraffe were successfully rescued and relocated to a new reserve where they are protected for the rest of their days. They clearly are doing very well in their new home. The old male giraffe who some thought would not survive the trip not only traveled well and settled in beautiful, but in fact, he has fathered a new calf since the move.

Without supporters like you, this lifesaving work would not be possible. Please join us to ensure giraffe populations will be safe for generations to come.
